It was a first for me.  I received calls at 6AM about ballots being rejected by our tabulator.  My immediate expectation was the aging equipment, which will be replaced in 2025.  When I looked at all of the test results and visited the polling place myself, the ballots appeared correct to the naked eye.

As I keep up with election news from around the country, I had recently read about a much larger problem in Shasta County California which seemed familiar.  As the day went on, we determined that there were only 50 ballots which needed to be hand-counted at the polling places as a result of what we believe is a printing error.  My partner Mary had a few more to recount in early voting (about 100) and there were about 75 absentees as well.

50 ballots is a rather small number of ballots to be hand counted, but we had already scheduled two Republican and two Democratic poll workers to come in and swat that fly with a sledgehammer.  All results were completed right on time, with no delays due to the issue.
